When our lovely Megan Avon passed away irl earlier this year many of her friends and members of the Daydreamer Group contributed to her memory book and made in-world $ donations to her son, Austin's College Fund. A hard copy of the book was sent to Austin in USA and was also posted online for all to read. I kept the money safe until sure we had the correct bank account details. (Call me paranoid if you like but I wanted to be certain it went to the right place).
It took AGES to track down the details ... we used Facebook, email and other methods ... but I'm so happy and proud to say that a check for US$400 was posted to the bank in USA today to be deposited directly into Austin's College Fund Trust Account. I can't tell you how grateful i am to everyone for their support and generosity. Thank you!!! I know Meg is smiling too .. we all miss you lovely Meggles ... rest in peace. Carmsie Melodie, owner of Daydream Island in Second Life, is perplexed and horrified. "There are strange happenings and weird sightings all over the place," she says.
A noob lays dead on the deck at Daydream's Hangout with a large, bloody knife protruding from her back. Who was she? Why was she killed? And who took her life? But murder is not the end of the tale - it's just the beginning. "Ghostly figures have been reported by several guests and one brave soul even managed to take a photograph!" Carmsie goes on to say. "Daydream Island is a popular destination and it's open to all. I want to warn people of the dangers. They can still visit but need to be aware that the Island's insurance policy will not cover them in the event that something evil besets them." Carmsie hopes that things will return to normal after Halloween, but who can tell what will happen? For those who are brave enough, here's the link to Daydream Island. First there was Daydream Island in Second Life, now there's Daydream Island in Real Life. Errr ... it might have occurred the other way around ... but details, details. Here's some pics of our counterpart location in Queensland, Australia. It's beautiful and it's oh soooo romantic. This new crystal cave is for couples seeking an idyllic place to dance (dance ball provided), or to sit quietly and chat (on giant jewels no less). Make sure you angle your cam up just slightly to see the wonderful water reflections on the roof. Ok, I admit that this cave drips and the floor is wet but we don't seem to notice these things in SL - funny about that :) I won't give the exact location of this magnificent cave because half the fun is in exploring. What I will say it can be found at ... yes you guessed it ... Daydream Island! A lovely new camp site has been set up at Daydream Island in Second Life. It has great poses for friendly gatherings or for couples with romance in mind. Guaranteed no mosquitoes or other nasty creepy crawlies!
Designer This fantastic rezzable set is called 'CUDDLE CAMP' and is made in-world by Anpuli Lifestyle. It comes with over 300 Animations! This vid shows you some of the features of Daydream Island and a few of the fun, curious characters that visit. It's a compilation of our photos, set to music.
Miko Minogue sure had fun at Daydream Island! So much so, she added several pictures to the SLUniverse site. The image above shows Miko meeting 'Iris', a weird eyeball that lives in one of our secret caves. Take a look at Miko's other pictures here. Nationality
British A bit about me... Throughout my time in SL I haven't hidden who I am in RL. I have maintained that my avi is an extension of myself and tried to model my avatar on how I'd look in rl, if my hair didn't grow like a crazy bush. So far it seems to have worked rather well for me, although I do find it difficult to find t-shirts that I like to wear and a nice pair of jeans that don't make me look gay... I can either be found in Daydream Island, bugging one of my friends, or trying to make money in some way. Either by taking part in contests, trivia or trying to promote my photography business. I take photos in RL and upload them to SL which has been successful and many people comment on how they like them and want to buy them. The reason that I am able to take so many good photos is because of my lifestyle in RL. I work in the Environmental Sector, so I spend a lot of time in the great outdoors, making it easy for me to take photos of beautiful landscapes. My work has taken me to Iceland and various other parts of the UK giving me a good collection of photos which are on sale both in the Marketplace and in world. Anyway enough of the sales pitch... although photography is a big part of my SL experience I am a lot more than that! I first came to Daydream Island because it was a nice quiet sim with lovely nature sounds and scenery, ideal for helping me relax while writing essays required for job applications. I since found there to be a great crowd of Daydreamers here who have brought me a whole range of experiences. Joy, frustration, sadness, confusion, laughter, the list goes on of emotions and things that only Second Life can provide. This brings me onto my funniest moment in SL, provided by Megan Avon (Meg) and Boudreaux Marsault (Bo). Early in 2011 Daydream Haven was opened as a second Daydreamer sim, owned and run by our beloved Carmsie. One day the three of us were outside their shop, Udaman when the joking turned to Meg shooting both myself and Bo. As many of you will know, when you are shot in Second Life, your avatar is thrown into the air making it uncontrollable as it flies into the sky. Needless to say the gun was shared and we often had sniping matches - when an avatar sits down, the gun has no effect on them. One day I was lucky enough to catch Meg off guard while she was talking to Bo outside their shop. I managed to hide in the neighbouring parcel that was the Stomp Music Venue, still they hadn't seen me on their radar, which was exceptionally rare. I took aim at Meg and fired. I hit both of them, sending their avatars flying into the sky. Although it doesn't sound as funny as it was at the time, I couldn't stop laughing for several minutes after the event and as Meg had started using voice chat, her language was rather colourful. You just can't do things like that in RL, Daydream Islands is a lovely sim which attracts some great people and that is down to the Carmsie. When I firt visited Daydream Island, Carmsie was welcoming and chatty, nothing has changed there, however when she logged off the crowd that she attracted and gathered around her dispersed. It was a case of Carmsie's gone so the party is over... Now the people have formed their own bonds with each other and that party doesn't just finish when Carmsie logs off. It moves on to somewhere else. Daydream Island has provided me with some of my best friends in Second Life and when I travel overseas I take some of those friendships outside SL, however they have stayed in the computer, at least for now. Will that change? I don't know but I know that Daydream Island and the now defunct Daydream Haven provided me with moments that I will treasure for the rest of my life. My SL rez (birth) date
12/27/2009 Real life nationality Australian A bit about me… SL is a wonderful place, the people you can meet on here and the way you interact can be special , The very special ones can make you love, laugh or just smile when they log on to SL. It's hard not to have some RL emotion on SL you invite the ones you trust and care about into part of your RL just by talking to them. The funniest thing I ever experienced in SL was … I have so many memories on SL it's hard to pick just one, possibly the most memorable was a certain person on SL hijacking someone elses account and having their dirty way with me albeit under another account ; ) . Daydream Island is … My favorite place on SL , (Yes Carmsie) Daydream Island is my most favorite place and please! please! put that chainsaw down, I have been coming to DayDream since my rez day , met the most beautiful people you would care to meet RL or SL, funny ,caring, and some who have just had shit luck with RL and yet can escape to beautiful places like DayDream meet wonderful people and in some small way become part of each others lives. I think Second Life is … My time on SL has had many up's and down's much the same as real life but thats the great thing on SL it give's me balance, people to talk to when RL get's too much I know I can log on and someones there always something to do or people to meet. My message to others in SL is … Treat other's with the same respect as you would in RL, have fun , laugh and even love, but be very careful about letting people into your heart as their intentions may not be as you think. In SL I get really annoyed by … ...people who mistreat or disrepect other's, those who fake.. who and what they are for the sake of popularity or to belittle others, my take on life is simple we are all people trying to make the best out of life as possible - here on SL or our real lives, Treat those as you would want yourself treated, race, colour or religious views should be respected but not become words or thoughts of hate, the world the Real world has enough of that already. |
